Following a successful campaign aimed at eradicating drugs from Chatsworth launched by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize and his Cabinet on the 24th September 2012, the focus has now shifted to Wentworth, South of Durban.
The Premier will lead his cabinet to launch a multipronged campaign aimed at fighting drug proliferation in the area.
The launch is scheduled as follows:
Date: Thursday, 24 January 2013
Time: 8h00
Venue: Austervile Community Hall (Wentworth)
Dr Zweli Mkhize remarked: “The successful strategies implemented in Chatsworth will be replicated here in Wentworth because drug and substance abuse seems to be a strong factor in many criminal activities. A multi-departmental team will steer the campaign against drugs, focussing on the rehabilitation of addicts and the intensification of law enforcement.”
“This forms part of a United Front Against Crime an initiative which seeks to ensure the integration and coordination of efforts of stakeholders from education, economic development, social development, health, home affairs, police and criminal justice departments including municipalities.”
“Importantly, as government we want to strengthen the participation of civil society in this campaign: churches against crime, business against crime, street committees and neighborhood watch groups,” Premier concluded.
