KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Social Development will tomorrow officiate at the commemoration of International Day on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Nongoma, north of the Province.
The day was declared by the United Nations in 1987 and is aimed at creating a drug-free society. The day is officially commemorated on the 26th of June. This year’s commemoration’s theme is: “Make health your new high in life, not drugs!”
MEC Thusi will also hand over certificates to youth volunteers who were part of a training programme to teach fellow youngsters about the dangers of drugs. Nongoma is one of the areas that have been hardest hit by abuse of drugs and alcohol, particularly among young people.
