KwaZulu-Natal to celebrate Freedom Day

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu has called on the people of KwaZulu-Natal to be part of Freedom Day celebrations scheduled to take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on the 27th of April starting at 9h00 in the morning.

Freedom Day celebrations will start at Ohlange in Inanda – the home of Dr John Langalibalele Dube, the first president of the ruling party, the ANC. The first president of a democratic South Africa, Nelson Mandela went to cast his ballot in the first ever election in his lifetime at the age of 72 at Ohlange.

“This is not only a gesture of respect to the Dube family, but being at Ohlange – an environment in which one of the giants of our liberation struggle once lived and worked in pursuit of a dream to free his people from the yoke of oppression, will inspire us to work hard to better the lives of our people.

“At Ohlange we will re-enact the journey that former President Nelson Mandela took, 20 years ago, as we, ourselves start another journey of taking South Africa forward. But more importantly, the message that we want to convey on the 27th April 2014 is that the people of this province irrespective of colour, class, political persuasions and religious preferences must join all of us in celebrating the 20 years of our freedom and democracy.”
