KwaZulu-Natal to celebrate Africa Day in Jozini

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Arts and Culture Department will mark Africa Day in Jozini, north of the province, this weekend. The annual celebrations commemorate the establishment of the African Union, which was founded in 1963. The African Union aims to collectively address the issues facing African countries such as poverty and armed conflict.

The event, which takes place on Sunday the 25th of May 2014, will see local artists as well as those from neighbouring countries, including Mozambique and Swaziland, taking part in a number of activities such a street parade and a music concert.

Children from the Umkhanyakude District have been encouraged to participate in this year’s event. Schools in the area have had to adopt an African country which they’ll present about on the day. Working together with the region, a number of young people have also been selected to attest to the good relations government has established with other African countries.

Date: Sunday, 25 May 2014
Time: 9h00
