Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo to advise Cuba-based medical students

You are cordially invited to join KZN Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo as he meets with more than 200 student Doctors who have been back home on vacation from the medical studies in Cuba.

The engagement will be on students’ welfare as well as the pitfalls that have resulted in some within their group being expelled and permanently removed from the course.

Of note here are the disciplinary issues that for an example pertain to:

  • A student from uThukela District who was arrested after being found drunk and in possession of drugs.
  • A student from iLembe District who is facing disciplinary action for the abuse of alcohol; misbehavior and was also accused of damaging the University equipment and property.
  • A student from iLembe District taken out of the course because he impregnated another student from Free State Province and in terms of the contract both students had to return to RSA.

MEC Dhlomo will also be emphasising on Family Planning issues with this group as a way of ensuring that they finish their desired studies without hindrances. The students are due to return to Cuba soon.
