DFFE, Agriculture and DPWI to celebrate women in the environment, agriculture and built environment sectors
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure will jointly host a Women’s Day celebration on Thursday, 13 August 2026, to recognise and celebrate the contribution of women across the environmental, agricultural and built environment sectors.
Held under the theme, “Imbokodo: 70 Years of Women’s Power from Resistance to Transformation,” the event forms part of the three departments’ joint programme to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the historic 1956 Women’s March.
The programme will recognise women as leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators and agents of socioeconomic transformation. It will also highlight their contribution to biodiversity conservation, climate action, forestry, fisheries, food production, agricultural value chains, construction, engineering, and infrastructure development.
The event will provide a platform to reflect on progress made in advancing women’s empowerment, while drawing attention to the barriers that continue to affect women’s access to land, markets, technology, and skills development.
The event will be addressed by:
- Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Bernice Swarts
- Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Ms Nokuzola Capa
- Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Mr Sihle Zikalala
Members of the media will have an opportunity to interview the Deputy Ministers, senior government officials and women working across the three sectors.
