Gauteng Health on course to test 1 million people for HIV in 3 months
The Gauteng Department Health has tested over 700 000 people for HIV and AIDS from October till to date, and it is on course to meet its target of testing one million people by the end of December this year. This drive is part of a build-up to World AIDS Day festivities which will be commemorated on Tuesday, 1 December 2015 in the City of Tshwane.
Under the theme: Working together to end AIDS in Gauteng by 2030; provincial commemoration festivities will run for a period of five days at the Tshwane Events Centre, from 30 November to 4 December 2015.
The festivities will amongst others include an EXPO by Gauteng Provincial Government departments and various stakeholders. Discussions will be focused on providing information about all aspects of HIV and AIDS including the latest scientific information and perspectives.
The festivities will be geared towards the realization of the UNAIDS 2020 vision of ensuring that by the year 2020; 90 percent of people living with HIV should know their HIV status; 90 percent of all those diagnosed with HIV infection receive sustained antiretroviral therapy; and 90 percent of all those receiving antiretroviral therapy reach viral suppression.
World AIDS Day is celebrated globally putting the spotlight on HIV and AIDS while uniting communities in the fight against the pandemic.
