Deputy Ministers Thomson and Skwatsha to hold an Imbizo In Amersfoort- Mpumalanga

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Barbara Thomson and the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Mcebisi Skwatsha will host an Imbizo in Amersfoort, Mpumalanga, on Sunday the 15th of July 2018.

The Imbizo is part of the 8th National Imbizo Focus Week 9 – 15 July 2018) under the theme “Together we move South Africa forward”. During the Focus Week political principals from all three spheres of government engage with communities in different parts of the country. The Deputy Ministers will hand over a Title Deed to farm workers whose tenure was insecure due to past discriminatory laws and practises.

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform acquired Valpoort farm for the purpose of securing tenure for four households. The Deputy Ministers will visit the farm to see how the land has been subdivided to cater for settlement, planting and grazing needs.

After the site visit, the Deputy Ministers and delegates will head to the community hall for an interactive session with the locals. The Focus Week is one of the mechanisms premised on direct, interactive and unmediated information sharing with communities – which gives credence to the realisation of an active citizenry in a participatory democracy.
