Deputy Minister Mcebisi Skwatsha visits small-scale farmers in Saldanha, 5 Nov

Deputy Minister Skwatsha to visit Saldanha farmers who received Covid-19 disaster agricultural support relief fund

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development will, on Thursday, 5 November 2020, do a site visit to Saldanha small-scale farmers in the Western Cape.

The National Covid-19 Agricultural Disaster Relief Fund was announced by Minister Thoko Didiza in April 2020, to assist small-scale famers during the lockdown.

In Saldanha Municipality, the department has spent R2 501 963 million, for a total number of 92 small farmers, with each farmer receiving not more than R50 000 voucher.  The vouchers have assisted the farmers to buy livestock feed, fertilisers, seeds, pesticides and medication. Through this intervention, the department seeks to ensure that agricultural production continues during and post the Covid-19 pandemic.
