Celebration of International Translation Day

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture will be hosting the International Translation Day celebration in Umzimkhulu Local Municipality on the 4th October 2013.

The theme for this year’s celebration is” Beyond Linguistic Barriers- A United World”.

This day offers an opportunity to draw attention to the importance of translators and interpreters in the world. These language practitioners often remain invisible and unacknowledged, yet their work makes a huge contribution to communication and interaction in all sorts of spheres, particularly in today's globalised world. The day is celebrated worldwide. International Translation day was instituted by UNESCO upon the suggestion of the International Federation of Translators.

This celebration aims to show solidarity of the worldwide translation community in an effort to promote the translation profession in different countries. The core of the observing this day is to display pride in a profession that is becoming increasingly essential in the era of progressing globalization and also to sensitize the  public about their linguistic rights and  job opportunities offered by this sector.
