Food and agricultural organisation, statistics South Africa and the department of agriculture, land reform and rural development to host the 28th session of the African commission on agricultural statistics
Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) and the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD), will host the 28th Session of the African Commission on Agricultural Statistics (AFCAS) from 04 to 08 December 2023 at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Johannesburg.
AFCAS is a platform for the sharing of ideas on the state of food and agriculture statistics in Africa. It also advises member States on the development of their agricultural statistical systems, as part of the FAO’s work programme for Africa.
AFCAS is one of the main fora for measuring the progress made by the FAO and African countries in the production and dissemination of agricultural statistics and the development of national agricultural statistics systems.
The theme for this year’s AFCAS is: “Leveraging data & statistics for agrifood systems transformation in Africa”.
The session will comprise officials in National Statistics Offices and Ministries of Agriculture from FAO member countries in Africa. Agricultural statistics are important for evaluation, planning and monitoring, as they provide vital numbers on production, stocks, and prices within the agricultural sector.
