As the country marks 18th anniversary of our democracy, the Premier of the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Dr Zweli Mkhize and members of his executive council have called on the people of this province to use Freedom Day to celebrate unity, diversity and prosperity.
“I believe that it is appropriate to express my appreciation, on behalf of the Provincial Government, to all leaders representing political parties, churches, business sector and ordinary members of our communities for their continuing support of this democratic government.”
“In this province we have made a miraculous progress over the past 18 years and we are beginning to see a new approach which is based on partnership and mutual respect.”
“I have no doubt that such an approach will ensure that the vision of a prosperous and peaceful KwaZulu-Natal is realised. Nowhere has the impact of post-apartheid peace been more visible and appreciated than in KwaZulu-Natal.”
“The image of KwaZulu-Natal has changed dramatically over the years. The spirit of peace and reconciliation blows like a fresh cool breeze. Our province enjoys reasonable freedom of association and political tolerance which was unimaginable during the apartheid era. We have developed an image of a inclusive, carrying, clean and hard working government.”
“Importantly, KZN has become an attractive destination for international events and investors. The warmth and friendly smile of our people has become a brand very few can compete with. No wonder leisure-seekers cannot wait to set foot on our shores."
“Events such as the Freedom Day give us the opportunity as government to continue to rally all sections of our society around a common vision – building a prosperous province. We must therefore celebrate the underlying values of love, respect, compassion, peace, justice, equality and freedom."
“In line with the theme for this year’s celebrations ‘Working Together to Build Unity and Prosperity’ we extend an invitation to all the people of this province to join us as we celebrate this important day in our calendar.”
