Five thousand pairs of school shoes will be donated to vulnerable and needy school learners on Friday, 29 October 2010 as part of an initiative between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education and South African Breweries.
Each learner will receive a pair of shoes and a pair of socks. Many of these children come from poor families and some are orphans. The shoes which have been donated by South African Breweries (SAB) will be distributed to learners in five districts which are; Pinetown, Obonjeni, Ugu, Amajuba and Empangeni.
“This grand and noble initiative is proof that we can all make a meaningful contribution towards giving our children quality education. We can all make a difference in just by giving the little that we have to assist needy learners. The support of the business sector is very important and hence we are grateful for this contribution and the commitment by SAB,” said MEC for Education Senzo Mchunu.
