Leisure and Recreation Association of South Africa (LERASA) will be presenting an International Conference on various themes around Recreation, Leisure and Tourism.
The conference is scheduled from 11 to 14 March 2012 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC in Durban. The Department of Sport and Recreation is one of the main sponsors for the conference.
The Leisure Conference will involve academics, researchers, professionals, practitioners to share information on the latest international trends across the globe. It will comprise of research paper presentations, of which 17 will be international speakers.
There will be at least 500 delegates, some of which will be from outside South Africa. The conference brings great minds in the Recreation and Leisure Industry at this critical time when recreation is being positioned to promote active lifestyle on a massive scale to address social and health issues.
The conference will be benefit, in that it will:
- Enable sharing of information on the latest international trends which will enable South Africa to improve on its community programmes.
- Enhance and improve on the ideas shared at the recent Sport and Recreation Indaba, and enable better planning into the future.
- Position South Africa as one of the international role-players in shaping the future of recreation and leisure globally.
The conference theme is “Building Liveable communities through the Collaboration of recreation, Leisure and Tourism Initiatives”. The theme is in line with department vision and strategic goals of promoting healthy communities and creating opportunities for participation.
