Deputy Minister Bernice Swarts to lead government–civil society dialogue on air quality in the Highveld Priority Area

The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Bernice Swarts, will lead the Government–Civil Society Dialogue on Air Quality in the Highveld Priority Area on Wednesday, 10 June 2026 in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.

Hosted by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), together with the Mpumalanga Provincial Government and municipalities within the Highveld Priority Area, the dialogue forms part of the Clean Air Conversations Series.

The engagement aims to create an inclusive platform for government, civil society, communities and experts to engage on air quality challenges and will focus on air quality monitoring and status, community concerns and health impacts, governance and policy interventions to strengthen  collaboration, and identify practical solutions to improve air quality in the Highveld Priority Area.

The dialogue also serves as a preparatory platform towards the 2026 Air Quality Governance Lekgotla scheduled for September 2026.
