The MEC for Finance, Ms Ina Cronjé, in partnership with Nedbank will on Tuesday, 3 May 2011 at 11h30 launch the provincial out of school youth financial literacy programme in Durban at Chatsworth (CRC Hall), over luncheon with potential stakeholders who are interested in promoting financial literacy among out of school youth.

Background:
The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Financial Literacy Association was established on 25 January 2011 under the auspices of KZN Finance MEC Ina Cronjé to address financial literacy in the province collectively (business, government, regulating bodies and financial institutions).
Four target audiences were identified:

in school youth
-
out of school youthWomen and vulnerable groups
-
small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs)
-
government employees.
A group leader for each of these audiences was elected to serve on the steering committee that was established on 18 February 2011.
The purpose of the launch is:

Promoting financial literacy among out of school youth in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) (Financial planning, credit, insurance and risk management, taking advantage of economic opportunity, budgeting, saving and investment and consumer rights).

Creating awareness of consumer rights and available support systems.
-
Obtaining the buy in of stakeholders who work with out of school youth.

Creating awareness of the financial literacy activities of the KZN Financial Literacy Association.
