A call for business to give towards education

KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC, Senzo Mchunu, will step up his call for businesses to dig deep into their pockets and contribute towards the development of infrastructure in schools. Infrastructure development remains one of the fundamental resources in the provision of quality education.

MEC Mchunu will engage with prominent business leaders in Durban at a business breakfast which is hosted by the department in conjunction with eThekwini municipality and the Durban Chamber of Commerce.

This breakfast meeting is a culmination of memorandum of understanding that was signed last year between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education and eThekwini municipality. This initiative will create a platform for the department to bring to the fore some challenges relating to infrastructure delivery in schools.

The department has a massive infrastructure backlog and getting a buy-in and support from the business fraternity will go a long way towards reducing the hefty R40 billion backlog.

This event will also be attended by the Superintendent-General, Dr Cassius Lubisi and eThekwini Mayor, Councillor Obed Mlaba.
