The Head of Department, Nkosinathi Sishi (Phd) is going to officially open Hlokozi High School at Umzimkhulu tomorrow. The official opening of Hlokozi High School follows on the heels of the opening of Mlozana Junior Secondary School by the President of South Africa, His Excellency, Jacob Zuma.
Hlokozi High School is one of the success stories that are indicative of the strides that the department has made since Umzimkhulu got incorporated into the province of KwaZulu-Natal. “When the province took over Umzimkhulu, there were more than 50 Mud schools - today there is not a single mud school in the area of Umzimkhulu,” said Dr Sishi.
The department spent R7 913 632, 50 for infrastructure upgrade at Hlokozi High School. The scope of the project includes renovation and repairs of all classrooms, construction of 1 computer room, 1 admin block, 2 blocks of toilets, drainage and paving.
“As a department we are very serious about rural education, hence the establishment of the new directorate that focuses solely on improving the standard of education in rural areas like Umzimkhulu. We want to ensure that delivery of academic and infrastructure programmes in rural areas are of the same quality as those in urban areas,” said MEC Senzo Mchunu.
