Arts and culture to open archives and museums to previously disadvantaged public

As part of Heritage Month celebrations, the Department of Arts and Culture in KwaZulu-Natal will hold two events aimed at encouraging the public to utilise its archives and museum services.

Friday, 4 September 2009, will see learners from previously disadvantaged backgrounds participate in a story telling competition. The 300 learners have been drawn from six schools in the Pietermaritzburg area. Winners will walk away with certificates and trophies.

The following day members of the public will be assisted in drawing up their family trees. There will also be speakers and experts on the drawing up of family trees and will give detailed information on the topic.
