KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha will launch Africa Fridays at the BAT Centre in Durban tomorrow, 8 May 2015. This will be done through African music, dance, poetry and dialogues. The celebrations are to mark Africa Month, which takes place during the month of May. This year’s theme is, “We are Africa – Opening the doors of learning and culture from Cape to Cairo”.
The department urges communities to take part in the festivities by wearing their traditional attire on Fridays. Arts and Culture will host numerous activities such as festivals, film exhibitions, design expos, dialogues using community media and other broadcasters, unmediated forums with experts on African history and fashion shows across the province throughout May.
These programmes will be done in partnership with the Africa Day Committee and Africans in Diaspora organisations which are made up of leaders from other African countries.
