Region)

Mpumalanga Province, through the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation
in conjunction with the Emalahleni Municipality, will be hosting the
above-mentioned events.

Cenotaph unveiling

The province embarked on a project to construct a cenotaph in each region of
the three regions. The intention is to honour Mpumalanga heroes and heroines
who died fighting for freedom and democracy. This is done in line with the
Freedom Park initiative.

The cenotaph programme will commence at Lynnville Hall in Witbank from 08h30
where families of the deceased will be addressed, then VIPs and families will
proceed to the cenotaph site where laying of wreaths, rituals practices and
prayers will be done. Then the Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla and MEC
Nomsa Mtsweni and Dr Wally Serote of the Freedom Park will officially unveil
the cenotaph. About 115 names will be put on the plaque; however provision will
be made should there be other name that surfaces later in the future
consultation.

The cenotaph epitaph

"We, the people of Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, are humbled by the
supreme price that you, our heroes and heroines' paid during the prosecution of
our struggle for democracy, non-racism, human rights, gender equality and
justice for all. We pledge ourselves to continue the struggle for the
realisation of our people's cherished vision: "A better life for all"
