MEC Willies Mchunu on killing of Inanda taxi operator

Mchunu vows that killers of Inanda taxi operator will be brought to book

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu, has asked law enforcement to work all out to find the killers of a taxi operator in Amaoti, in Inanda.

Preliminary reports revealed that yesterday, 13 January 2014, at about 11h10 am at Amaoti, Mr. Gwazaphi Nzama (53) was outside his home when he was shot and killed by two unknown men. He sustained two wounds to the face, three in the head, another three in the back and one in the neck. He was certified dead on the scene. Approximately 20 cartridges were found on the scene.

The South African Police Service is investigating a case of murder and no arrests have been made as yet. Mchunu has expressed his shock at the recent killings and warned that such would not be tolerated.

It is very disturbing to continue to see these senseless killings. The police are out in full force to find the perpetrators of these crimes, so they can face the might of the law. The killing of Mr. Nzama seeks to undermine our efforts to sustain peace and stability in the taxi industry. My promise to the perpetrators of this evil crime is that they will not succeed. We will find them and justice will be seen to be done. On behalf of the government, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the Nzama family and friends," said Mchunu.
