The repealed Water Rationalisation and Amendment Act 32 of 1994 intended:

  • to provide for the rationalisation of certain laws relating to water matters that remained in force in various areas of the national territory of the Republic by virtue of section 229 of the Constitution;
  • to amend the Rand Water Board Statutes (Private) Act, 1950, so as to authorise the Rand Water Board to render water supply and sanitation services;
  • to amend the Water Act, 1956, so as
  • to redefine certain expressions;
  • to make certain provisions of the Water Act applicable to the Rand Water Board;
  • to authorise the Minister and water boards to render water supply and sanitation services;
  • to provide for the establishment and functioning of local water supply and sanitation committees; and
  • to further regulate the financial year of a water board;
  • to amend the Water Act, 1988 (Bophuthatswana), so as to define, redefine or delete certain expressions;
  • to amend the Bophuthatswana Water Supply Authority Act, 1988, so as
  • to further regulate the composition of the Bophuthatswana Water Supply Authority Board;
  • to further regulate the term of office of the members of the said Board;
  • to further regulate the quorum at meetings of the said Board;
  • to authorise the Bophuthatswana Water Supply Authority to render water supply and sanitation services;
  • to replace the short title of the Act, and to change the names of the said Board and Authority; and
  • to provide for the functioning of the said Authority in an extended area of jurisdiction;
  • to make provision that water boards may function in certain areas of the territory of the former Republic of Bophuthatswana; and
  • to provide for matters connected therewith.
