Committee revisits Ncera farms to check progress

The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will on Tuesday 27 November 2012 revisit the Ncera Farms, a public company in the Eastern Cape to monitor progress and challenges still facing the entity.

“As the Committee we promised during our last meeting with the management of the entity that it would be better to visit the area once again to see for ourselves if all the issues we raised were addressed,” said Committee Chairperson, Mr Lulu Johnson.

In October this year, the entity’s management could not brief the Committee on the highlights of their 2011/12 annual report when they appeared along with other five entities. Committee members expressed serious concerns about the entity’s progress report which did not reflect whether the issues previously raised in the company’s turnaround strategy were addressed.

The Committee will also meet with the Provincial Standing Committee on Agriculture and the management of Fort Cox College of Agriculture to discuss, among other things, the training and accreditation for Ncera Farms (Pty) and the possible lifting of the decree from the College issued by Brigadier Oupa Gqozo in 1992.
