Commission for Gender Equality Mpumalanga Men's Summit 2012

On 29 November 2012 at 09h00 to 13h00, the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) in Mpumalanga province will host a Men’s Summit at the Nelspruit Parks Board under the theme: “From peace in the home to peace in the world: let’s challenge militarism and end violence against women”.

In 2007, the CGE convened a men’s seminar with the purpose of empowering men to establish men’s forum and deliberate on issues that affects them. This process was followed by implementation which was actioned by number partners including the CGE in 2009.

During the Men’s Summit held in 2011, and it was based on the premise that social pressure, construction and expectations potentially influence all other factors such as the economic and political landscape.

As per the 2011 men’s summit, it was resolved that the process of engaging men should be continuous, hence the CGE has planned the 2012 Men’s Summit.

 Objectives of the Men’s Summit:

  • To make an assessment in terms of the state of affairs of men’s formations and share best practices.
  • To strengthen the existence and sustainability of men’s forum
  • To encourage women to effectively and fully support men’s formations and
  • To deliberate on how culture and religion impact on socio-economic circumstances.
