Wholesale and retail workers get a pay boost

Employees working under the wholesale and retail sector countrywide have witnessed an increment on their wages.

The increments which have been effected as from 1 February 2011 have seen amongst others cashiers boosted by an extra R14.07 per hour, sale assistants with R11.27 per hour, forklift operators with R12.10 per hour.

Asked what measures they have to guarantee that there is compliance in this regard, the Deputy Director of Inspection and Enforcement Services in Limpopo province, Mr Phaswane Tladi highlighted that in the province, robust inspections will be planted throughout to ensure that such increments are employed fittingly.

Tladi further cautioned that those who are found wanting will definitely be taken head-on so that the exploitation of vulnerable workers is totally eradicated.

“We plead though those employers comply rather than being pressured, but if they cannot do so on their own, we will help them through the issuing of compliance orders,” Tladi said.
