Transport Minister visits level crossing crash site and families of the bereaved and injured in the North West

North West: Transport Minister, Honourable Dipuo Peters will, tomorrow morning, Monday, 24 March 2014, visit the Dr. Moroka rail level crossing in Rustenburg, the scene of a horrific crash that resulted in the tragic loss of young lives last week on Thursday.

The Minster's visit follows a horrific crash that resulted in the tragic deaths of four children when a vehicle carrying 12 of pre and primary school age between 5 and 8 years collided with a Trasnet Freight Rail (TFR) train and leaving others with serious injuries.

Minister Peters will visit the families of the deceased and injured to offer her condolences and support, but also to offer government services to the families during this period of grief.

The Minister will also visit the Job Mashingana Tlhabane and other neighbouring hospitals in the area where some of the injured are receiving treatment.

Accompanying the Minister during the visit will be senior official from the entities of the Department of Transport, namely Rail Safety Regulator (RSR), Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), Road Accident Fund (RAF), the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) and the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL).

Some of the entities will assist the families with information regarding post care services that they offer, such as those rendered by the RAF and PRASA.

The details of the Minster's visit are as follows:
Date: Monday, 24 March 2014.

Starting point of visit: Dr. Moroka rail level crossing, Tlhabane location (Rustenburg).

Thereafter the Minister will visit the Job Mashingana Tlhabane Hospital where some of the injured are hospitalized and later the families of the deceased and injured.

Time: 10h30 for 11h00
