Thembalethu Clinic celebrates 20 years of existence

Gauteng Health MEC, Mr Hope Papo will this Friday join in the festivities to celebrate Thembalethu Clinic’s 20th anniversary at Helen Joseph Hospital, Westdene.

This clinic which is based at the hospital and deals with HIV, Aids and TB has started over 23 000 patients on the Anti-Retroviral programme. The staff at the clinic attends to more than 600 patients per day.

This unprecedented increase in patient’s number led to the commissioning of the clinic in a bigger area. Right to Care, through donor funding assisted the hospital to build Thembalethu Clinic which is now accommodating the treatment area, pharmacy and research unit.

The latest innovation that has been implemented in collaboration with Right to Care is the installation of an automated dispensing machine in September 2012. This machine is envisaged to reduce waiting times, automate stock management and reduce stock theft.

Other areas that are performing well with the partnership of Right to Care are: MMC Programme; HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) Campaign and regular wellness days for staff.
