Police Minister wishes Ms Jennifer Ntlatseng well on her new role as police watchdog Director

The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele has welcomed Ms Jennifer Ntlatseng as the new Executive Director for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.

Ntlatseng who is the first female to occupy this position brings onboard over 20 years of experience in the criminal justice system and community policing sectors.

Illegal firearm owners get a second chance with the new Firearm Amnesty period

A new Firearm Amnesty for a period of six months, commencing today, 1 August 2020 until 31 January 2021, has been approved by Parliament during this past week.

The previous amnesty period which was also intended for a period of six months, between December 2019 and May 2020 was thwarted by the unexpected Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, the South African Police Service received a resounding 46 714 firearms.

Minister Bheki Cele releases 2019/20 annual crime statistics, 31 Jul

Police Minister, General Bheki Cele, will on Friday 31 July 2020, release the annual crime statistics, reflecting crimes that occurred from the 1st of April 2019 to the end of March 2020.

The Minister will be joined by Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale, all Provincial MEC’s and South African Police Service National Commissioner, General Khehla John Sitole, senior management of the SAPS as well as heads of entities.

Police arrests suspects for corruption fraud and conspiracy in Mpumalanga

Three suspects will appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate Court on Monday following their arrest on Friday.

The three suspects aged between 27 and 39 years old were arrested in Nelspruit during an intelligence driven operation by the Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation together with Cyber Crime, Local Criminal Record Centre and South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

Police on suspect wanted for cash in transit in Mpumalanga

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Mpumalanga is seeking the assistance of the public about the whereabouts of Vusi Mthembu (39) who is sought for a cash in transit robbery which was committed at Thulamahashe Bushbuckridge area in September 2017.

A group of suspects allegedly accosted a Fidelity cash van and managed to steal an undisclosed amount of money after they bombed the security vehicle. Mthembu was allegedly linked to the armed robbery through robust forensic investigations. His accomplices have been arrested and they are still in custody.

National Commissioner Khehla Sitole on mobilising 72 Activation Plan

Manhunt underway for Gauteng MP murder suspect

The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Khehla John Sitole has tasked the Gauteng SAPS Provincial Management to immediately mobilise the 72 Activation Plan following the killing of the Gauteng Safety and Security Portfolio Committee Chaiperson, Mr Mapiti David Matsena.
Mr Matsena was with his family at their house at Holy Hock Street in Doornpoort when he was attacked and fatally stabbed in the chest.

Police on Diepsloot Police Station temporarily closed due to Coronavirus COVID-19 related incident

All communities  serviced by Diepsloot police station are advised that the police station has been temporarily closed after one of its members tested positive for Covid-19.

The Community Service Centre will be operating from Metro police department office, opposite Diepsloot police station, Corner Buffalo and Ingonyama street, extension 2.

The community is advised to call 10111 for all emergencies and complaints which needs to be attended by Diepsloot police station.

Minister Bheki Cele calls for greater compliance with Coronavirus Covid-19 level 3 regulations

Minister of Police General Bheki Cele led a multidisciplinary operation in Soweto, to assess adherence to Covid-19 regulations during the Level 3 Lockdown period.
The operation was one of seven activities carried out across the Gauteng province on Saturday 13 June 2020, consisting of members of the South African Police Service, supported by the JMPD and SANDF.

Cele praised compliance in some areas in the township. However warned that some residents are still not taking social distancing seriously.

An alleged illegal firearms parts consignment that was imported from the United States of America was intercepted in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.

The Hawks’ National Priority Violence Crime operationalised information that was received from a contact relating to the said consignment destined to South Africa via a freight shipping service.

Former Chief Financial Officer at Mantsopa Municipality found guilty of fraud

Former Chief Financial Officer at Mantsopa Municipality in Ladybrand Claudia Tsokoliso Seitleko (39) was found guilty on several counts of fraud and theft worth R829 908.  

Seitleko appeared at Ficksburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday where she was convicted on 23 counts of fraud, two counts of theft as prescribed in the Prevention of Organised Crime Act  (POCA).
