Science and Technology hosts viewing event for astronomical phenomenon, 11 Nov

SA to witness a rare event when Mercury transits the Sun on Monday

For the first time since 9 May 2016, Africans will be able to watch Mercury transit the Sun on Monday, 11 November at 14:35 Central Africa Time (CAT). People with access to telescopes are encouraged to take the opportunity to view this rare event, as those who miss out will have to wait until 13 November 2032 for the opportunity to do so again.

UK and South Africa to showcase successful research chairs partnership

South Africa and the United Kingdom will showcase the activities of a joint research chairs programme under the UK-South Africa Newton Fund during a symposium to be held in Pretoria on Wednesday.

The UK-SA Research Chairs Programme was launched two years ago as part of an innovative bid to expand the South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) through collaborative partnership.

South Africans in Europe to talk policy for 4IR

The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) is leading a visit to Europe this week, on a study tour to help inform South Africa's response to the fourth industrial revolution.

The European Union (EU), a long-term partner of the Department, is expected to help South Africa identify relevant opportunities in 4IR and form relevant partnerships in research funding, business and the public sector, among others.

Second BIO Africa Convention to take place in Durban

The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), in partnership with its entity the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), and AfricaBio, will host the 2019 installment of the BIO Africa Convention at Durban's International Convention Centre (ICC) from 26 to 28 August 2019.

Taking place under the theme "Africa: Transcending consumerism, leading innovation", the three-day event will build on the success of last year's inaugural BIO Africa Convention.
