The formal inquiry into the 2008 Stellenbosch construction accident got underway today (Tuesday) at the Labour department's provincial offices in Cape Town.
Three workers were killed and four others seriously injured when a building they were renovating collapsed on them in Stellenbosch in June 2008. The inquiry is being led by Phumi Mapaha as the Presiding Officer, assisted by James Hannie, both from the Department of Labour.
Mr Paul Meyer representing the client-Nordic Sage Invest 22 (Pty Ltd), Principal Contractor, Lavita Builders as represented by Hilton Micheal Lavita including Mr Willem Smit, the engineer were cross questioned today. Tomorrow will be the second day of the inquiry and the proceedings are expected to continue until Friday, 7 August 2009 from 09h00 to 16h00 everyday.
