Operation Fiela / Reclaim puts suspects behind bars
The Crime Combating Operations conducted as part of Operation Fiela / Reclaim held in identified hotspot areas in the province [North West] by the South African Police Service, other law enforcement officials and role players led to the apprehension of 171 suspects for various offences.
The operations were held simultaneously on 30 July 2015; the arrested suspects include 32 arrested for contact crimes, 39 for drugs and liquor, eight for possession of suspected stolen goods and 13 for property related crimes.
It was during this operation that 113 fines were issued for liquor, traffic and second hand goods related offences. Out of these arrests, 29 were in Mahikeng, 38 in Rustenburg, 58 in Brits, 24 in Klerksdorp and 22 in Potchefstroom. 62 undocumented persons were also taken in for processing and verification of their documents.
The following goods were seized during the operations: Dagga, counterfeit goods, vehicle body, copper cables and cigarettes.
The suspects include a 24-year-old man who was arrested for two cases of residential burglary, one case of theft out of motor vehicle and another case of attempted theft out of motor vehicle. These crimes were committed between 2013 and 2014 in Unit 12 and Unit 13 in the Motlhabeng and Tloung villages, Mmabatho.
All suspects are expected to appear in different courts respectively beginning on 3 August 2015.
Upon addressing the members before commencement of the operation in Mahikeng, the Acting Provincial Commissioner; Major General Jacob Tsumane encouraged members to walk every street of Mahikeng and Mmabatho and strive to ensure that the communities are safe.
“The operation in this area is also aimed at supporting the provincial government’s programme of Rebranding, Renewing and repositioning of Mahikeng as the capital city”, Major General Jacob Tsumane said.
The operation was conducted as part of nationwide and simultaneous operations in identified hotspot areas with a focus on Operation “Fiela / Reclaim” priorities, and is continuing in order to maintain stability and security.
