Young Cuban trained medical student dies in car accident

North West MEC for Health Dr Magome Masike and the entire Department of Health workforce have learnt with shock and great sadness about the tragic death of a young Cuban trained medical student Goitsemodimo Donald Macwili from Rooival in Taung.

According to his family, Goitsemodimo who has just completed his 5th year medical studies in Cuba, arrived home at Rooival in Taung on Saturday 04 July 2016 from O.R. Thambo Airport, and at about 21h00 he went out to visit his friend in the same area. They travelled together to Pampierstad and on their way back they both tragically lost their lives in an accident.

In his reaction to this shocking news, MEC Masike said loss of life especially that of a young person like Goitsemodimo is always tragic and hard to accept.  “It is a great loss not only to the family but the entire Bokone Bophirima Province. We would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family and we wish them strength to heal through this difficult and trying moment,” said the MEC.

“As a department in need of health professionals we cannot afford loosing those that we train. It is a setback to the Province,” concluded MEC Masike.
