Western Cape Social Development on returning boys left stranded by soccer scam

Five boys left stranded by soccer scam returned to KZN safely

The five boys who were in the care of the Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD) have returned back to KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) safely.

The boys were left stranded after being deceived into travelling to Cape Town for a scam promising them places at a top soccer club’s training academy.

The boys were received by DSD KZN and placed into the care of social workers, who will make the assessment and determine the process of returning the boys home.

We continue to warn parents to be extra vigilant, and to be aware of scamsters and child traffickers using deceptive means to potentially abduct and traffic children.

Ensuring the safety and care of children requires a whole-of-society approach. Residents can report any neglected, abandoned or missing children to the police or to the DSD Hotline on 0800 220 250. Alternatively, the public can seek assistance from our social workers at any of our local offices closest to them.
