Western Cape Government supports Cape Town in Concert livestream event

The Western Cape Government has come on board as a sponsor of the Cape Town in Concert livestream event which will be taking place this weekend, in support of our local artists who have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 lockdown.

The concert taking place on Saturday, 8 August is the brainchild of local businessman, Rozario Brown, organiser of the annual Mitchell's Plain festival. The event will include performances by Robin Pieters, Salome, Claire Phillips, Loukman Adams, Vicky Sampson, Vuvu Kumalo, and Nur Abrahams and will be MC'd by local comedian Wayne McKay.

Premier Alan Winde said:"The Cape Town in Concert event has three aims- to give the stage back to some of our talented performers who have struggled to earn during the lock-down period, to support our frontline workers and to share the COVID-19 prevention message and to speak out against Gender Based Violence. COVID-19, unemployment and gender based violence are all pandemics which the entire country is facing and it is important that we as a government support initiatives aimed at addressing all three."

"The Department of the Premier is also focused on using innovation to find ways to improve the lives of our residents, and this event gives us an opportunity to assess the impact of digital events in the province, which are likely to become a big part of the new normal.

Organiser, Rozario Brown said: "Cape Town in Concert is a culmination of various artists approaching me over the past few months to do something to help earn an income. This event will create a platform to showcase our local talent and help them earn some form of income. We also want to make it easier for our frontline workers in the field by highlighting to the audience the importance of the basics like mask wearing, washing your hands and social distancing. Thirdly, we are sending a clear message to those that support this event that we are 100% against all forms of gender based violence."

"The Western Cape has come through for us and recognised  the importance of getting our artists back onto our stages", Mr Brown said.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 7pm on Saturday, 8 August, can be bought online at https://www.quicket.co.za.

Each ticket costs R75 and the whole family will be able to use one ticket to tune into the online concert.

Premier Winde said: "This concert promises to be a fun evening of entertainment with some of the Western Cape's most loved artists and is something that we can enjoy while staying at home-no matter where you live in the province or the country. I encourage everyone to buy a ticket and support this worthy cause."
