Western Cape Education launches National Schools Hygiene Programme (NSHP) at Zimasa Primary School in Langa Township, 15 Oct

Tomorrow, the National Schools Hygiene Programme (NSHP) will be launched at Zimasa Primary School in Langa Township, Cape Town. It is an initiative supported by Unilever through its brands, Lifebuoy, Mentadent P and Domestos.

The programme involves a 21-day behaviour change intervention in class regarding the washing of hands with soap, the brushing of teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste and ensuring cleanliness in school toilets.

The Deputy Director General of Care and Support in Schools at the Department of Basic Education Dr. Granville Whittle will deliver the keynote address.

The Global Handwashing Day is celebrated on October 15, of each year globally and it is a campaign to motivate and mobilize millions around the world to wash their hands with soap at critical times.

The Western Cape Province is pioneering the implementation of the Extended Hand Hygiene Programme.

Grade 1 Educators and Peer Educators have received training on the NSHP and Extended Hand Hygiene Programme in preparation for the implementation after its launch.
