Water and Sanitation on water supply in Tswaing Local Municipality

Water supply increase in Tswaing

In January 2016, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) announced additional measures to support of water and sanitation infrastructure delivery for Tswaing Local Municipality.

A R1.9 billion business plan was approved by DWS aimed at turning around water and sanitation services in areas that will eventually benefit a total population of 844 775 people within Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality.

Already in Agisanang Township in Tswaing, five new boreholes have been drilled to augment water supply to 2421 households in Sannieshof. The boreholes have been connected to the Sannieshof reservoir and the community is receiving water; that has reduced water tankering in the area

Some areas in Tswaing have had major improvement in water supply; in Delareyville four boreholes were rehabilitated and Kopela had three boreholes refurbished and 100 taps were installed.

Furthermore in Khunwana and Mofufutso 1 & 2, Sedibeng Water replaced leaking panels on the elevated steel tank, refurbished eight boreholes and installed a transformer in Delareyville. In Letsopa Ext 6, nine boreholes were equipped to meet the water demand.

Three new boreholes have been drilled in Geysdorp, one new borehole in Manamolela and also new boreholes in Majaneng were equipped. In all these villages, pipeline reticulation has been completed, while work on the erection of pump houses has already commenced. Other areas benefitting include Vresvedachgt, Deelpan and Ottosdal.

The Acting Regional Head of North West, Dr Tseliso Ntili mentioned that the drought intervention strategy is as a result of Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane’s directive to turn the water and sanitation services around in Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality.

He further mentioned that there is a need for investment in water infrastructure and that with better maintenance and operations the water supply will be sustainable for future generations.
