Water and Sanitation supplies more tankers to assist in Free State

The Department of Water and Sanitation will today supply six new water trucks to drought stricken areas.

Areas like Qwaqwa in Maluti a phofung Local Municipality, Senekal that falls under Setsoto Local Municipality and Kroonstad which is under Moqhaka Local municipality will each receive two new water tankers. The tankers have a capacity of 18 000 liters which will start to supply water to communities immediately.

These Local Municipalities are amongst the most affected by drought in the province. Water levels have decreased substantially with most dams at either critical level or have dried up completely.

These tankers are short term interventions while the department is mapping a way to drill more boreholes and underground water in these towns.

Communities are urged to keep using water sparingly as the rain has not had a big effect on supply in the dams. The situation remains the same in most of these areas.
