Water and Sanitation hosts Climate Change and Sustainable Hydropower Generation Policy Consultations, 21 Sept

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) seeks to include the public in drafting the Climate Change and Sustainable Hydropower Generation Policies. The public will provide written comments through communication channels to be provided by the department, and also present verbal inputs through consultation sessions across the country during the month of September 2016.

The Cabinet-approved National Climate Change Response White Paper (NCCR), sets out the overall national government response to challenges of Climate Change and recognises water as one of a number of sectors that need immediate attention, along with health, agriculture, forestry, biodiversity and human settlements.

It is against this background that the department has developed a sector specific policy position on climate change to address specifically water and sanitation related climate change issues as the NCCR is too broad to address issues that this policy is addressing. This will then improve climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.

The Department of Water and Sanitation KwaZulu-Natal will host a public engagement and workshop related to this to accommodate all interested and affected parties on:

Date: 21 September 2016
Time: 09h00
Venue: Elangeni Hotel, Durban

The media is invited to attend.  For media confirmations please contact Mbali Mahaye 082 601 5674/ 031 336 2929/ MahayeM@dws.gov.za
