As part of Global Hand washing Day commemoration, the Limpopo Department of Water and Sanitation in partnership with Limpopo Department of Education and various stakeholders in the province will embark on a campaign to educate the members of the public on the importance of handwashing.
The purpose of Global Hand washing Day is to create awareness about the importance of hand washing with soap to prevent diseases and to save lives. This day is observed under the theme, “Make Hand washing a Habit”.
According to a research by Center for Disease Control and Prevention, if everyone routinely washed their hands, a million deaths a year could be prevented.
It is also estimated that washing hands with soap and water could reduce diarrhea disease-associated deaths by up to 50%.
