Water and Sanitation conducts clean-up campaign at Jukskei River in Alexandra, 31 Mar

DWS Gauteng will conduct a clean-up campaign at the Jukskei River in Alexandra

The Department of Water and Sanitation in Gauteng, will on Wednesday, 31 March 2021, embark on a clean-up campaign on the banks of the Jukskei River as part of the Water Month celebrations.

The Jukskei River is an iconic river that flows in the City of Johannesburg and a contaminated water course with high concentration of raw sewer and E.coli.

Arising from the need to engender a sense of valuing water resources, the clean-up campaign will be followed by a door-to-door the aim of which is to have communities gravitating towards water conservation, caring for water resources as well as health and hygiene.

The Department will be joined in the campaign by the City of Joburg, the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the South African Social Security Agency, and non-governmental organisations such as Msezani Security, the Alex Peace Ambassadors, Shomang Sebenza Development Initiative, the Alex Rotarians and the Alex Men’s Forum.
