Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies Development Plans consultative process kicks off
Pursuant to the North West Provincial Government’s resolve to develop the economies of its Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies (VTSD) in line with the objectives of the National Development Plan, the Provincial Planning Commission which is located in the Office of the Premier is embarking on an intensive consultation process which seeks to finalise the draft VTSD Development Plans.
The process which will see government officials, led by the Planning Commission and the Local Municipalities, meeting with communities across the province to present draft VTSD plans for each area and receiving inputs from the communities before adopting the plans for implementation, will start tomorrow, Wednesday 13, in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality.
According to the Head of Planning Commission in the Office of the Premier, Mr Gordon Kegakilwe, this process will allow for each draft VTSD plan to be interrogated by examining profiles of each village, township and small dorpie and confirming the existence of businesses in the VTSD area.
Participation in these engagements will include all stakeholders, amongst them, traditional leadership, religious representatives, councilors and ward committees, business representatives, youth, disabled and women structures, farmers and the general community.
The meetings will be held at various community or tribal halls in all villages, while the townships and small dorpies meetings will be held at town or school halls.
It is expected that all VTSD Development Plans will be ready before the end of May 2016.
In his 2016 State of the Province Address, Premier Supra Mahumapelo reiterated the Provincial Government’s decision to intensify efforts to build an inclusive VTSD economy that promotes enterprise and industrial development, and reduce unemployment in rural areas, maintaining the exclusion of the poor from the markets or in the development of products and services cannot forever characterise the VTSD economies.
Members of the media are invited to cover the VTSD Development Plans consultative processes which will be held as follows:
- Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District VTSDs – Wednesday, 13 April 2016
