Department of Small Business Development deliver in yet another rural community
The Department of Small Business Development continues to improve the lives of rural communities by delivering sustainable economic interventions. This time, the department, in partnership with the Muziwabantu Local Municipality, will on Tuesday launch the Ulimo Agricultural Cooperative in Kwa-Jali, Harding, in Umuziwabantu Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development, Ms Ruth Bhengu, MECs, the Mayor of Umuziwabantu Local Municipality, Ugu District Municipality and InkosiJali are expected to attend.
The department is supporting twelve cooperatives in the area to the tune of R4.2 million. The funding for the Ulimo Cooperative,whose core business is fresh farm produce, is mainly for the installation of irrigation systems, provision of seedlings and fencing. The cooperative also aims to utilise available resources to empower its members and locals with modern farming skills through collaboration with a technical partners.
The department sees this cooperative as an important intervention to stimulate local economic activities and create employment in this poverty-stricken community.The details of the event are as follows:

The event will also be used as a platform to encourage young people to form cooperatives and initiate businesses in order to create a better life for themselves.
