Police on arrest of criminals after shoot out with police

Two arrested after shoot out with police

The driver of the speeding vehicle was later stopped. As his vehicle came to a standstill two occupants alighted the vehicle leaving another two in the vehicle. Officers came under fire as they stopped their vehicle. They retaliated and were successful in arresting the driver aged 43. He had sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital. One occupant aged 23 was also arrested.

During the shootout the two suspects that had alighted the vehicle fled into the nearby bush. When officers searched the vehicle they discovered that the boot was laden with copper cable. The vehicle that was being used by the suspects has been impounded. The officers were not injured during the incident. Suspects are due to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 April 2016. They will face charges of attempted murder and possession of suspected stolen property. Police are tracing the origins of the copper cabling.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for the arrest. “We would like give a stern warning to all copper cable thieves that we shall arrest them as this is a very costly exercise to restore stolen cables,” she said.
