Free State Sports on South African squad for 2018 African Nations Championship qualifiers

Tshegofatso Mabaso from Bloem Celtic named in Bafana

Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter has named a 25 man squad to face Zambia in the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers and Tshegofatso Mabaso from Bloemfontein Celtic has been named as a new face to the national squad.

The Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Me Mathabo Leeto would therefore like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mabaso on this sterling achievement. Mabaso is a 20 year old midfielder from Mangaung who has previously captained Grey College’s soccer team and has also played for local clubs such as Young Tigers FC from 2010 – 2011 as well as Brazil FC from 2011 – 2012.

The first leg of the third and final round of CHAN qualifiers will take place on Saturday, 12 August 2017 with the second leg taking place a week later in Zambia.

Congratulating Mabaso on his call-up Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Me Mathabo Leeto said, “In our 2017/18 Budget Vote we made a commitment as a department that we will support Free State Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic with an amount of R2 million each to promote professional football teams in the province.

This support given to professional clubs in the province has gone a long way in enhancing the level of professional football in the province. Mabaso’s call-up to Bafana Bafana is a testament that indeed our efforts are yielding results and we wish him all the best”
