Trendsetter Mahlangu inspires Arts and Culture Committee
The Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture celebrates the work of Ms Esther Mahlangu whose work continues to transcend all barriers. The Committee is encouraged by Ms Mahlangu’s continued use of her culture and heritage as a tool to educate people around the world about the beauty of being African.
The two international collaborations that Ms Mahlangu has entered into come at an opportune time as the country celebrates Heritage Month.
“These collaborations must serve as a reminder that the splendour of South Africa lies in the diversity of our rich culture. We congratulate Ms Mahlangu, who continues to inspire every South African, to uncover the greatness that lies within,” said Ms Xoliswa Tom, the Chairperson of the Committee.
It is worth noting that the two collaborations are geared towards worthwhile causes that are intended to make a positive contribution in society. The proceeds from the collaboration with BMW will go towards The Art Room, a project that supports childhood development, while the collaboration with American singer Johan Legend will raise money for the Global Funds to fight HIV/Aids in Africa.
“These are essential projects that need the support of all South Africans in order for them to succeed,” Ms Tom emphasised.
