Minister Dipuo Peters visits Kwa-Mhlanga for Moloto road stakeholder engagement, 15 Dec

The Minister of Transport, Ms. Dipuo Peters will visit and engage with various stakeholders on issues related to Moloto road in Kwa-Mhlanga, Mpumalanga province on Tuesday, 15 December 2015.

The R573 Moloto Road is known for its high accidents that have claimed many lives. The 160 kilometres stretch of road runs through three provinces: Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, and is used by approximately 50 000 commuters daily. The road remains an important economic route connecting these three provinces.

Minister Peters will use her visits to engage with key partners from, among others, business, government, the youth, road users and general civil society in order to update them regarding the upgrade and improvement of the road.

The high accidents rate on this road necessitated the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) to upgrade the road. Consequently, the Department of Transport transferred the road to SANRAL in July 2015 to do the upgrades. An amount of R1.1 billion was allocated for this project over a three year period. The upgraded road will not be tolled.
