The DTI and Productivity SA to bring workplace challenge programme’s 20-year celebrations to Free State
The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in partnership with Productivity South Africa will commemorate 20 years of productivity improvement by the Workplace Challenge Programme at an event that will be held in Botshabelo (H. Hall 3119 Section H2), Free State on Tuesday, 16 October 2018.
The Workplace Challenge (WPC) programme is a joint initiative of the dti and Productivity South Africa (Productivity SA) that is implemented over a 24-month period with the aim to encouraging and supporting negotiated workplace change to improve productivity and job creation. The programme is also committed to the enhancement of industry clusters, facilitated by Productivity SA facilitators.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies says that participating enterprises are mainly small and medium enterprises in the manufacturing, agriculture, agro processing, mining and beneficiation sectors.
“The average number of employees per participating company ranges between 50 and 250 people. Productivity SA provides training materials comprising the basics of World-Class competitiveness in five Toolkit modules: The World-Class Competitiveness Management System; Goal Alignment; Cleaning and Organising; Teamwork, Leadership and Green Productivity,” says Davies.
Davies adds that participation to the WPC programme will lead to an improvement in the companies’ carbon, water, chemical, paper and human energy footprint.
Productivity SA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mothunye Mothiba explains that the facilitation approach of the WPC programme provides Cluster Facilitators to assist each Cluster and individual member enterprises with the implementation of Workplace Transformation Toolkits.
“The facilitation process focuses on developing capacity in companies to understand problems and implement solutions by themselves. Productivity SA is established in terms of section 31(1) of the Employment Services Act, No. 4 of 2014 as a juristic person with a mandate to promote employment growth and productivity, thus contributing to South Africa’s socio-economic development and economic efficiency,” says Mothunye.
