On 11 June 2016 during the day, members from Louwsburg police together with SAPS Ulundi Vehicle Identification Section conducted an intelligence driven operation at Louwsburg area after receiving information about stolen vehicles in the area.
The members proceeded to town where they saw two suspicious-looking vehicles which were a Kia bakkie and a Toyota Corolla. Both vehicles were stopped and drivers were questioned about the vehicles. Both suspects could not give a satisfactory explanation as to how they got those vehicles.
The members checked these vehicles and both came as stolen vehicles. A Kia bakkie was stolen at Pinetown area in April 2016. A Toyota Corolla was stolen at Verulam area in October 2015. Two suspects were arrested and charged for possession of stolen vehicles. On further investigation, a third vehicle which was a Toyota bakkie was found at KwaMadamu area in Louwsburg on the same day.
The driver was arrested and the said vehicle was stolen from Greenwood Park area in Durban. He was also charged for possession of stolen vehicle. All three suspects aged between 33 and 57 years will appear today in the Louwsburg Magistrate’s Court.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa commended the members for their effort in recovering stolen vehicles and arresting the three suspects. “I also thank community members who alerted the members about these stolen vehicles. Community members are encouraged to join Community Policing Forum. That partnership will help to strength our relationship in the fight against crime,” he said.
