Minister Nomvula Mokonyane launches Technical Skills Development Programme, 30 Jun

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane, will tomorrow, 30 June 2016, launch a partnership with leading South African construction firm, Group 5, aimed at providing technical skills training to young people.

In 2013, Group 5 established the Izakhiwo Imfundo Bursary Trust, as a public benefit trust aimed at providing young South Africans with opportunities and bursaries in the built environment.

The water sector was identified as one of the strategic sectors of the South African economy and as such, the Trustees approached the Department of Water and Sanitation to collaborate on the development of technical skills development within the sector.

The Department of Water and Sanitation and the Trust have since signed a 5-year Memorandum of Agreement to promote the programme and open access to young people in the sector.

The Minister, along with the Chief Executive Officer of Group 5, Mr. Eric Vemer and Chairperson of the Trust, Dr. Namane Magau, will launch this initiative.
